Get your home show day ready

Get your home show day ready

Just like a car dealership would get a car into tip top shape before parking it on the dealership floor, so too should you prepare your home for show day. There are several things you can do to get your home show day ready that won’t break the bank. You can do this by mapping out the buyer’s journey from driving up to your gate to viewing the last room in the house.

The pavement outside your home

Make sure your pavement is clean, with no weeds and fly-by empty packets or garbage. A neat and well-groomed pavement gives a good first impression.

The driveway and garden

The driveway should also be clean with no obstructions and paving that’s level and flat. A good sweep and a quick declutter will make a big difference. If you have a gardener or garden service, make sure they cut the grass and clean the garden beds the day before your show day. If you have animals, make sure you’ve cleaned up after them before you open your home to prospective buyers. A well-maintained garden that’s colourful and clean increases the appeal of the property.

Sparkling clean swimming pool

A dirty swimming pool is a big turn off on show day. It gives the impression that you don’t take care of your property or that your pool may need expensive repairs.

General touch ups

Take a walk around the inside and outside of your house and touch your paint up where there are cracks and dirty marks. Fix broken gutters and replace broken tiles. If you have any leaking taps, fix those as well. These are small things that can make a big difference.

Give your carpets a good clean

Dirty carpets often give off a smell that you may not even notice because you are living in the house. Freshly cleaned carpets will look good and smell clean.

Let light in

Allow natural light to flood into your home by opening all your blinds and curtains. Natural light makes spaces look bigger. Also, make sure all your lightbulbs work.

Declutter

Even if you pack things away just for your show day, this will help show how spacious the rooms are. It’s also a good idea to lock all your valuables away so that they are safe when people are roaming around your home.

Final touches

Buy fresh flowers and place them in vases around the house. Put clean bedding on all the beds and make sure your countertops are clean and dust free. Play soft music in the background and put a pot of coffee on for a homely aroma. Fragrant candles also add to a homely atmosphere.

When people view a home they often imagine what it must be like to live in it. If your home is neat and tidy, it becomes more inviting for the prospective buyer. Be sure to pull out all the stops if you want to attract buyers as fast as possible. Show days are an inconvenience to most sellers. By getting it right, you can cut the number of show days you need to sell your home.
